This is a data map I found on Many Eyes that shows life expectancy by country. Darker countries have longer life expectancy. Two well-known trends can be seen here: the low life expectancy in Sub-Saharan Africa, and the high life expectancy in North America, Western Europe, and Japan. However, the map also points out substantial differences that have not been as publicized. Western Europe, for example, has MUCH higher life expectancy than Eastern Europe. Similarly, Canada and Australia both do significantly better than the US. Afghanistan has far lower life expectancy than any of its neighbors.
