Shoes and Consumerism
I found this graphic pretty interesting because it has a lot of the elements of visual design that Tufte approved of, such as the easy interpretability. The legend at the upper right hand corner easily shows what geographic regions that spend a lot on shoes. What isn't clear, however, is what percentage of per capita income each amount equates to. $100 spent on shoes in America would look very different to a consumer than $100 spent in Pakistan. Also, I would have liked to see some of the countries labeled. I do enjoy the description of shoe styles at the bottom, but as a female, I would have preferred to see female shoe styles.
