I found this graph on Many Eyes, and it reminded me of a graph we looked at in the 3-4pm section last week. The color distribution indicates what percent of US Foreign Aid that country received, by year. It particularly useful for looking at the distribution of aid in terms of historical events, e.g. war. At the same time, it can be fairly time consuming to differentiate countries from one another.
