
This graph is from the New York Times, and it orders countries from highest percentage of citizens who believe in evolution to lowest percentage of citizens who believe in evolution. It's very easy to read, which is nice, but it's sort of frustrating that it only makes the point that the US belief percentage is only higher than Turkey's. It would be interesting to see the data compared against geography, or some kind of economic information, or the predominant religion of each country. Instead, the graph is only designed to make a single point (United States is bold) that could have been easily written out in a single sentence.

I think Rich makes a good point about this graph. Another thing that concerns me is that the white space between the two bars is that same color as the background, but it actually represents data. I wonder if Tufte would approve...
